During component 1, I explored ideas of: collaging, the composition of landscapes, the relation between urban and natural landscapes, blurred landscapes, minimalist landscapes, layering, disrupting landscapes, and the concepts of light and time. At first, I was predominantly using collaging urban and natural landscapes, but I soon moved onto mainly minimalist landscapes and layering, and finally, I finished the component with ideas about light, time, and disrupting landscapes. Out of these themes, I think that I ended successfully, as the theme of disrupting landscapes closely followed concepts of time, light and nature. For example, the concept of nature closely coincided with my responses to Fong Qi Wei and Toshio Shibata, via layering, and the spontaneity of nature. Also, I think that my final response to Fong Qi Wei that I made during the making day also closely relates to the concepts of light and time present in Wei's work, making an effective response. In my work, I think that I have tackled the threshold concept of 'photography is a hybrid kind of picture making, democratic and diverse', as I believe that I have incorporated many methods of picture making across my work, making a diverse and ever-changing portfolio.
Towards the beginning of my project, I used mainly physical methods of photography, such as layering, collaging and disrupting. I think that these responses were successful, as they related to the fundamental concept of constructed landscapes. However, these images were slightly less refined than those I completed towards the end of the project, possibly because I used mainly Photoshop for my pieces later on. I think that I have used the inquisitive habit of mind the most during this project, as I have constantly been research methods of manipulating photos to ensure my responses are not all too similar. Furthermore, I think that I have been persistent, as there have been many instances in which a photo has not worked out to me, but I have tried again, used a slightly different method. I think that the most challenging aspect of working like a photographer has been that there are some slight imperfections in some of my photos, and I have not had time to correct them, which I would normally do in other subjects.
I have used my website to record not only my responses and their analysis, but also my ideas that have developed along the way, via the use of mind maps. I have also included the methods for some of my photos, which has been successful, as it is clear to see the developments I have made even as I make responses. My online exhibition page is effective, as have used no background, along with no writing, to create an absolute focus on my work.
Finally, for my final outcome of this component, I created 4 supporting images, and 1 final piece. I think that this was an effective choice, as I spent a lot of time during the making day just on my final piece, so I needed a few pieces to elevate my work. The four supporting pieces were effective, as they held concepts seen in the final piece, and so were related, but also were different enough to be separate photos. They related to the concepts of time, light, but mainly the relation between urban and natural landscapes. My final piece related to the concepts of light and time, and was also somewhat inspired by Fong Qi Wei's work. I think that these photos directly responded to the theme of constructed landscapes, as they relate to ideas of manipulating and compiling different types of landscapes. Furthermore, these images were personal to me, as I am interested in the composition of landscapes, and the use of light. If I did these pieces again, I think that I would also possibly use the concept of symmetry within my images.
